Course Objectives and Content

Course Objectives: To gain knowledge and skills about the formation of pregnancy, the changes and risks in the pregnancy process, the importance of follow-up and care during pregnancy, to protect and improve the health of the mother and fetus, to adopt their own roles in this process.
Course Content: Fertility and women's health; Reproductive health, the importance of factors affecting the situation in Turkey and reproductive health, reproductive system anatomy; reproductive system physiology; Female and male genital system anatomy, Female and male reproductive system physiology, Pregnancy formation (fertilization) and factors affecting pregnancy formation, Prenatal period and the role of the midwife, prenatal period (pregnancy, pregnancy symptoms, diagnosis, physiological and psychosocial changes during pregnancy), Usual complaints and management according to trimesters during pregnancy, Prenatal evaluation, follow-up and prenatal care (Increasing maternal and fetal health during pregnancy), Prenatal fetal evaluation (prenatal diagnosis methods), Rights and protection of pregnant women, Conditions that put maternal and fetal health at risk during pregnancy and their prevention Pregnancy exercises, Pregnancy education and its importance for healthy pregnancy, delivery and postpartum, Evidence-Based Practices in Pregnancy

1) To know the formation of pregnancy and the factors affecting pregnancy, the role of the midwife in preventing them, the things to be done for a healthy pregnancy, and the importance of care, learning and reflecting the knowledge learned into practice.

1) To know and recognize the importance of pregnancy follow-up, what should be done, the usual changes in pregnancy follow-up, risky situations, and to gain the ability to perform an effective pregnancy follow-up.

1) Explains the legal rights, authorities, and responsibilities related to the midwifery profession; effectively applies the theoretical and practical knowledge acquired regarding professional ethical principles and patient and staff safety in professional practice, in accordance with current legislation and regulations.
2) Plans, implements, and evaluates educational, counseling, and care services with a holistic approach, taking into account the needs of individuals, women, pregnant women, families, and the community.
3) Evaluates the effectiveness of healthcare interventions to enhance the quality of midwifery care and contribute to the development of evidence-based practices; assumes responsibility in individual and/or interdisciplinary scientific research and activities, transferring the obtained results into practice.
4) Identifies the needs related to all life stages and reproductive health of women, from the preconception period through pregnancy, labor, postpartum, and the neonatal period; evaluates potential problems within a holistic and spiritual midwifery approach, and plans and implements appropriate care interventions.
5) Detects potential risk situations during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum periods; manages care processes safely and effectively by using problem-solving, critical thinking, and independent decision-making skills.
6) Performs normal delivery and breech delivery in the absence of a physician in accordance with mother-friendly approaches; applies episiotomy when necessary and monitors the birth process.
7) Provides family planning services; conducts follow-up, evaluation, and referral processes for women aged 15–49 and children aged 0–6.
8) Identifies personal learning needs in cognitive, social, cultural, and intellectual areas to sustain professional development, and improves oneself accordingly.
9) Monitors developments in informatics and care technologies with a lifelong learning and active citizenship perspective, applies them in professional practice, and integrates effective language and communication skills with basic historical knowledge from a professional standpoint.
