Course Objectives and Content

Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to make students familiar with digital communication technologies and increase their literacy level in this direction. It is aimed that students show a critical approach to the content presented on new media platforms.
Course Content: In the new Media Literacy course, students understand what media literacy means, the importance and impact of media texts messages. Within the scope of this course, students will critically examine media texts and examine the impact of the message and tool.

Theoretical - Conceptual
1) In this course, students gain knowledge about the new media environment, the concepts that evaluate the events and facts in the new media environment, the effects of digital media and digital media on the society, the individual, and the conceptual framework of media literacy.
2 - Skills
Cognitive - Practical
1) In this course, students can interpret and evaluate media texts using the knowledge and skills learned in the field of media literacy and develop solutions based on research.
3 - Competences
Communication and Social Competence
1) In this course, students can share his / her thoughts and suggestions for solutions to problems with his / her colleagues by supporting them with quantitative and qualitative data.
Learning Competence
1) In this course, students can learn to critically read, interpret and evaluate media messages.
Field Specific Competence
1) In this course, students differentiate between true and false information by using different confirmation mechanisms regarding the accuracy and wrongness of the content presented in the new media.
2) In this course, students knows the concept of media literacy and bases and criticizes the media texts presented in the media with theories.
Competence to Work Independently and Take Responsibility
1) n this course, students can take responsibility individually or as a team member to solve the problem of misinformation encountered in the media by gaining digital media literacy skills.
